About us

How we prepare clinical content

We take care with medical information because people use it when they are in pain, frightened, or trying to get help from a GP or emergency department.

Our approach

Cluster Headache Aotearoa NZ is a patient-led organisation. We work to provide accurate, concise and digestible information that is relevant for New Zealand patients, grounded in the International Classification of Headache Disorders (ICHD-3), published international clinical guidelines, and New Zealand practice and funding context where we can verify it.

Being patient-led is both a strength and a responsibility. It keeps the writing close to lived experience. It also means we do not present ourselves as clinicians. We engage New Zealand neurologists who have offered their expertise and time so that the information we publish can be checked against current best practice and guidelines.

What each page shows

Not all content has completed clinical review. Each medical page carries a status notice:

  • Clinically reviewed: a New Zealand neurologist has reviewed that page and we have applied the agreed changes. The notice shows the review date.
  • Awaiting clinical review: the page is published from guidelines and verified sources, but formal neurologist review is not yet complete for that page.

Review status is about the accuracy of information for patients. It is not an endorsement by any clinician, hospital, district or health agency, and it is not a substitute for individual medical advice.

Alternative and emerging topics

Some patients look beyond standard treatments. Where we cover alternative or emerging options, we do so carefully: with clear legal and evidence context for New Zealand, without recommending illegal use, and with links to sources we consider reliable. Those pages remain under clinical review until specialists are comfortable with the framing.

Corrections welcome

If you are a clinician and you spot an error, an out-of-date funding detail, or wording that could mislead a patient, please contact us. We will treat corrections seriously and update the relevant page.
